OUTDOOR EDUCATION CLASSES

Want your students to learn something new and gain a better understanding of the world around them?  In between high ropes elements, your students can do just that by participating in a hands-on learning experience! Join us us at Camp Timberline Christian summer camp!

SURVIVOR

Students will learn basic survival tactics and outdoor skills necessary to safely enjoy the wilderness.  Your students will also get the added bonus of building their own shelter and fire!

 

Key concepts: rules of 3’s, ten essentials, what to do if you’re lost, shelter building, fire building, and water purification.

TREES N' THINGS

Through a nature hike, students will learn basic forest ecology through tree identification, uses for trees, and the connection between plants and animals within a forest ecosystem.

 

Key concepts and vocabulary: Ecosystem, biotic, abiotic, parts of a tree: bark, photosynthesis, cellulose, evergreen, decomposition, and more!

GET LOST

Students will be introduced to basic orienteering skills by learning how to use a compass and how it works.  After reinforcing math concepts involved in pacing, students will get an opportunity to test what they’ve learned by venturing out on a compass course. 

 

Key concepts and vocabulary: cardinal directions, latitude, longitude, topographic and political maps, pacing, bearing, orienteering, and compass rose.

Camp Timberline can accommodate 224 guests.

 

  • Boys’ Lodge building with 7 “cabins”, each “cabin” having 8 bunk beds for a total of 16 guests per cabin. Each has a bathroom with two showers, sink and toilet.

 

  • Girls’ Lodge building with 7 “cabins”, each “cabin” having 8 bunk beds for a total of 16 guests per cabin. Each has a bathroom with two showers, sink and toilet.

Retreat season is open for group reservations mid-August through mid-November ONLY.

Group sizes must be equal to or exceed 70 guests for weekdays and 100 guests for weekends.

Each group is allowed 1 free chaperone per 10 paying students/guests.
